Lachlan Giles, Craig Jones & Tobian Green will all meet tough Brazilian opponents in their first round match-ups at the highly acclaimed ADCC Submission Fighting World Championships, while notably, UFC welterweight Hector Lombard will come up against an American opponent.
The event which has a proud history of featuring some of the world’s best no-gi grapplers, has got underway in Sao Paulo, Brazil and will culminate on Sunday with Andre Galvao facing Roberto “Cyborg” Abreu in the superfight.
Training out of Absolute MMA & Conditioning in Melbourne, Lachlan Giles faces BJJ world champion turned MMA fighter Gilbert Burns in the under 77 kilogram division. In the same quarter of the bracket former UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson faces Russian Abdulkadirov Magomed. The defending champion Kron Gracie is not partaking in the tournament this year so all eyes will be on 2013 runner-up Otavio Sousa to take out the event.
Among the contestants in the under 88 kilogram division will be Craig Jones from South Australia with the Aussie in for a tought first round match when he faces the defending champion Romulo Barral from Brazil.
Western Australian Tobias Green contests the under 99 kilogram division and has been drawn against talented Brazilian up-and-comer Cassio Francis Da Silva while in the same division Cuban-Australian Hector Lombard will be eager to impress when he meets American Jason Bukich.
