Brisbane based Ben Nguyen will travel back to his place of birth as he is set to face ranked flyweight Louis Smolka on the UFC Fight Night 91 card.
The event takes place at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on July 13 (July 14 in Australia).
Originally from Sioux Falls, Ben Nguyen relocated to Australia after meeting his Australian wife while training in Thailand. Nguyen now trains out of Integrated MMA and cracked the UFC’s top-15 flyweight rankings for the first time earlier this week, after impressive first-round stoppages over Alptekin Ozkilic and Ryan Benoit.
The 27-year-old will be in for his toughest UFC test to date, coming up against number 12 ranked UFC veteran Louis Smolka, who has lost just once in his professional career. That coming via a split points decision to Chris Cariaso. The 24-year-old brings a 10-1 professional record having won his last three outings, which includes a notable stoppage over Australian Richie Vaculik back in November 2014 in Sydney.
Nguyen joins Australian Kyle Noke on the card, who was announced yesterday to be taking on Keita Nakamura. Also officially anounced for the card will be a middleweight fight between Tim Boetsch and Josh Samman, while Scott Holtzman meets Cody Pfister.
