Fight News Australia would like to extend their condolences to the family and friends of fighter and MMA United gym owner Ben Quarmby who passed away yesterday morning after a battle with Merkel Cell Carcinoma, a rare skin cancer.
The talented welterweight prospect was undefeated in MMA as both an amateur and professional with all seven of his wins coming via a stoppage. Quarmby impressed on the local scene, and with mentor, Muay Thai veteran Bruce “Preacher” Macfie in his corner, he captured the XFC amateur title before turning pro. Impressive wins against Chris Johnstone, James Klingner and Damien Fraser followed with the Orange, New South Wales based fighter also spending time assisting Brian Ebersole to prepare for his UFC 178 bout.
XFC has introduced the Ben Quarmby award which will be awarded to the fighter who rises above all others with their performance, both in & out of the cage. The first award is set to be handed out at the promotions next event on November 7.
Rest in Peace Ben!
