Former UFC fighter, and CFC lightweight champion, Bernardo Magalhaes (12-3) and Melbourne standout Nick Patterson (12-4-1) have been announced for the AFC 8 main event.
The lightweight matchup, which is the first for the February 22 show, was revealed today by the promotion on Twitter.
Thirty two year-old Bernardo ‘Trekko’ (pictured) has remained on the sidelines since stopping former Brace lightweight champion Sonny Brown back in Sept. 2012, at Proud Warrior Productions 5. The victory, which came by first round TKO for the Sydney local, followed a two-fight stint in the UFC, which saw him on the wrong side of the judges scorecards against Tim Means and Henry Martinez. The TP gym product was slated to meet Hugo Nunes on a Sydney card in November, however that bout never eventuated. This will be his debut Australian Fighting Championship appearance.
A former AFC title challenger, Nick Patterson, 30, of the Kimekai gym in Melbourne, is coming off a rear-naked choke submission of NSW veteran Rod Staader at AFC 7. This will be his fourth appearance for the promotion, in which his record stands at 2 wins and 1 loss.
AFC 8 will take place at the Melbourne Pavillion. The event is also expected to feature the Falciroli vs Kara-France rematch, following their disappointing no contest ruling at AFC 7, due to Kara-France hitting his head on a ring side table after falling through the ropes.
