Former UFC fighter Bernardo “Trekko” Magalhaes will face off against New Zealand fighter Kieran Joblin for the vacant Australian Fighting Championship lightweight title.
Magalhaes (pictured) announced the match-up via social media, with the two fighters to clash at AFC 10. The event returns to the Melbourne Pavilion on August 16 and will be headlined by a middleweight title fight grudge match between Steven Kennedy and Daniel Kelly.
The AFC lightweight title was previously held by New Zealand fighter Daniel Hooker, however following his recent win in the UFC, the title has now been vacated.
Victorian based Nick Patterson was set to challenge for the title, however an injured shoulder has forced him to the sidelines and the man he defeated at AFC 8, Bernardo Magalhaes, steps up in his place. After going 11-1 to start off his MMA career, Magalhaes has one victory from his last four outings, with that coming back in September 2012 against Sonny Brown following back-to-back losses in the UFC.
From across the Tasman, Strike Force Canterbury fighter Kieran Joblin started off his MMA career with mixed results, however has been impressive in recent outings which includes submission wins over veteran Australian fighters Ian Schaffa and Gokhan Turkyilmaz.
Also on the card, AFC regular Peter Davenport will come up against Luis Dabu while in a battle of two powerful strikers, Joe Muir returns back to action against Daniel Way. Also, Tommy Murray and Aden Baron will finally meet in the ring after their last outing was cancelled due to a disagreement on the weight.
AFC 10 will be streamed live and if you’re planning to watch the event online you can now help support Fight News Australia by purchasing and watching the stream at our Live Fights Page for US$16.99.
