Russian fighter Sergey Kovalev stopped Australian challenger Blake Caparello (pictured) inside two rounds on Saturday night to successfully defend his WBO light-heavyweight title.
The two headlined the card held at the Revel Resort in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Caparello nearly completed the upset in the first-round though, when he landed a straight left that forced Kovalev to regain his balance by touching the canvas.
Kovalev composed himself and sent 27 year-old Caparello to the canvas three times to get the TKO stoppage. The referee stopped the contest at 1:47 of the second-round.
The win takes Kovalev’s record to 25-0-1d, and sets himself up for a unification bout against future hall-of-famer Bernard Hopkins later this year.
