Gennadiy ‘GGG’ Golovkin returns to the ring for the first time in 15 months when he finally takes on WBA middleweight champion Ryota Murata.
The bout was originally scheduled for December 29, but the re-emergence of the omicron variant of coronavirus, shut the borders in Japan and the fight was moved to Saturday, April 9.
At a fresh age of 40, Golovkin will be looking to prove he is still at the top of the division while for Murata, this will be the biggest win of his career.
Golovkin brings a 41-1-1 record, having last competed in December 2020 when he stopped Kamil Szeremeta.
Murata holds a 16-2 record and has had his career put on hold due to Coronavirus. The 2012 Olympic gold medallist last competed in December 2019.
