Former world champion boxer Sam Soliman’s return to the ring was an unsuccessful one as the Australian fighter lost a split points decision to Dominic Wade after ten rounds of boxing earlier today in Washington, D.C, USA.
The decision could have easily went the way of the Australian after what looked like a push after a left hook, was deemed a knockdown for Wade in the fourth round as Soliman tripped to the canvas.
The official scorecards were 97-93, 95-94 for Wade; and 96-93 for Soliman. The Australian’s management team are considering to appeal the decision.
“In the modern fight game punching statistics count and they do not lie. Sam Soliman landed 64 power punches compared to Wade who landed 35. Soliman landed 23 body punches to Wade’s 9,” Soliman’s manager David Stanley said via a press-release received by Fight News Australia.
“Soliman was the busier of the two boxers throwing 450 punches to Wades 317 controlling the action” Stanley added. “So what does a boxer have to do to win on the judges score card?”
The management team will be reviewing footage from the fight before making an appeal to the IBF.
Wade takes his undefeated record to 18-0 (12 KOs), while Soliman drops to 44-13, 1NC (18 KOs).
