Cameron “Van Damme” Rowston and Robby Lara picked up wins on the Superfight MMA 13 card which took place at Club Punchbowl in New South Wales.
Originally from Sydney but now training out of City Kickboxing in Auckland, Rowston made quick work of Leo Diaz, forcing his opponent to tap 66-seconds into the contest.
Diaz stepped up a weight division for the bout and it showed with Rowston having a clear height advantage. Diaz went for an early takedown but was forced to defend his neck as Rowston immediately capitalised, taking this opponent’s back and locking up the rear-naked choke for the tap.
Rowston moves his professional record to 5-2.
Universal Combat Academy trained Robby Lara improved his record to 2-3 with a stoppage over opponent Byron Cowell.
Cowell stepped up on late notice for the bout and took the centre of the cage early however left his guard down after a high-kick which allowed Lara to capitalise. Lara connected with a left that immediately dropped Cowell. He followed it up with a hammer fist on the ground before the referee halted the bout.
Twenty-two-year-old Lara moves his professional record to 2-3.
