UFC flyweight Casey O’Neill has suffered a submission loss to Ariane Lipski in the opening match up of the prelims for UFC 296 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
O’Neill was submitted in the second round by armbar, after being dropped by Lipski’s striking. Lipski controlled both rounds of the fight, landing heavy strikes and defending O’Neill’s takedown attempts, landing a takedown of her own in the first round. This continued into the second round, before Lipski was able to secure an armbar to pick up the win.
O’Neill’s record is now 9-2, and this is the first time she has been stopped in her professional career. O’Neill entered this fight following a decision loss to Jennifer Maia at UFC 286 in March.
O’Neill was originally slated to appear at UFC 293 in Sydney in September, however an injury forced her to withdraw from the bout.
Lipski’s record now reads 17-8, and her winning streak improves to 3, all of which being in 2023.
