TUF Nations competitor Chris Indich has confirmed that he was released from the UFC after going 0-2 in the promotion.
The 27 year-old fighter got his opportunity as an contestant on The Ultimate Fighter: Canada vs Australia early this year. Indich went down in the first-round to Canadian Chad Laprise via decision. Laprise later went on to win the welterweight series.
Despite the loss, the Western Australia based fighter got an opportunity to fight on the finale back in April, but lost a decision to fellow Australian Richie Walsh. He was given another opportunity with another Australian opponent in Vik Grujic on the UFC Fight Night card in New Zealand last month. Grujic stopped Indich with punches in the opening round.
“Obviously it’s disappointing but in turn I didn’t do myself any favours and under-performed. In the best organisation you need to bring it every time,” Indich responded when asked about the release.
Indich went in for surgery on Monday, which will keep him out of action for a while. When he does return the Arena MMA product will look at a potential move down to lightweight.
“I’ll now take some time to heal up from a surgery I’ve had, then get back in the gym and improve also work on a move to the lightweight division.”
Indich was one of five fighters mentioned earlier in the week as being removed from the UFC roster. The other fighters included TUF Season 16 winner Colton Smith as well as Estevan Payan, Pat Healy and bantamweight fighter Dave Galera.
