Proving himself time again, Hooker has shown that he is still a top contender in the lightweight division. Since coming off a dominant performance over Claudio Puelles at UFC 281, the Kiwi has been calling for a ranked opponent for his next bout to climb his way back into the top 10. On Tuesday, the New Zealand native confirmed the news in an interview with The Mac Life.
“I think I said he turned the fight down, and he was like, ‘Aye, man. I didn’t turn that fight down,’ then let’s fight then. And it worked. Fishing with dynamite, baby,” Hooker said.
“He’s in the Top 10. We kind of just cracked the rankings or whatever. I think everyone knows me; I try to target the best guy. I try to target the highest person that you possibly can, and that’s Jalin Turner. It’s a good fight, No. 11 versus 10. Get myself back in the Top 10. It’s exciting.”
As Hooker is looking to stack up his winning streak, Turner will be a stern test for the City Kickboxing fighter, where the American took out his fellow teammate Brad Riddell via a guillotine choke within 45 seconds of the first round at UFC 276.
Turner has currently defeated five fighters from the Oceanic region and is aiming to tick another one off the list. The American is riding on a five-fight-winning streak comprising of 3 submissions and 2 TKO finishes. Turner currently holds a professional record of 13 wins and 5 losses.
