Queensland based Elliot ‘The Dragon’ Compton was beaten in his debut fight on Kunlun Fight 63 on Saturday night via a well-timed body rip in the second round of his 70kg World Championship Tournament bout.
Calling on his background in muay thai, Compton was able to land several clean step-up knees on his young Chinese opponent, Li Shiyuan, and at times looked to be dominating the action. Well-timed boxing combinations and good footwork from Compton were enough to have Shiyuan worried in the first round despite his aggressive walk-forward style.
As Compton looked to move in for a body shot of his own, it was Shiyuan who delivered a compact punch to Compton’s right ribs which dropped him to his knees instantaneously. Unable to recover the referee called a stop to the bout.
Joining the lineup in Kunlun Fight’s ongoing World Championship Tournament on Kunlun 63 at the Mangrove Tree International Conference Centre in Sanya, Compton was looking to make an impression on his Chinese debut. Shiyuan had other plans on the night however and went on to win the 4-man tournament, moving on to the next round of the championships.
