A bantamweight title fight between Reece McLaren and Shantaram Maharaj will headline Eternal MMA 5 this Saturday night.
The event will be held at the Coolangatta Hotel on Queensland’s Gold Coast.
A former Fightworld Cup title holder, McLaren comes into the contest following an impressive TKO stoppage over Kian Pham at the last Eternal MMA event back in February. The Kachi MMA fighter has wins over Pat Promrangka and Chris Morris. His last loss came at the hands of Jacob Mahony after he looked on track to win a decision before being submitted with less than a minute to go in the fight.
Maharaj was one of the busiest fighters of 2013. He defeated Mitchell Mallett, Luke Morris and Mark Brady with losses losses came at the hands of highly regarded Ben Nguyen and Jacob Mahony. Both Mahony and Maharaj rematched at XFC 20 earlier this year, only for Mahony to again walk away with the win.
In a highly competitive bantamweight division, both fighters will be looking at making a statement.
Also on the main card, a former winner for knockout of the night back at Eternal 2, Brett Jacobsen comes up against recent Fightworld Cup interim title challenger Johnny Mendez Walker. The winner will earn a shot at the featherweight title later in the year with the title currently being held by Michael Tobin.
Coming off a decision win over Edwin Arana back at Nitro MMA 9 in July, 24 year-old Shannon McClellan will return back to action in a bantamweight clash against Rings Toowoomba fighter Matthew George.
In a late addition to the card, Sydney based fighter Rick Alchin has stepped up to face Valor veteran David Butt.
