Former Bellator lightweight champion Will Brooks may be heading down under to take on Nik Lentz at the UFC’s upcoming event in Sydney.
The potential matchup was first reported by MMAjunkie.
Brooks (18-3 MMA, 1-2 UFC) also put a post on instagram that he will fight at the event, but the UFC have not yet made an official announcement regarding the contest.
The pair were originally slated to fight each other at UFC 216 before Lentz (27-8-2 MMA, 11-5-1 UFC) was removed from the card after he was not medically cleared to fight. It was later revealed that Lentz was forced to go to the hospital after weight cutting issues, due to his body not responding to insulin.
Brooks entered the UFC as the reigning Bellator lightweight champion, but has had a rocky start to his UFC career since joining the organization halfway through last year. After picking up a win against Ross Pearson, Brooks went on to suffer two consecutive losses for the first time in his career. He suffered a TKO loss to Alex Oliveira and then a submission loss to Charles Oliveria.
He will be looking to rebound against Lentz who last fought and lost to Islam Makhachev at UFC 208. Lentz is 2-1 since returning to the lightweight division after a stint at featherweight.
Taking place November 19 at Qudos Bank Arena, UFC Sydney will be headlined by a heavyweight bout between Fabricio Werdum and Marcin Tybura.
