Faine Mesquita’s ONE Championship debut opponent has been announced.
The Brazilian-born Aussie will face Kyrgyz teen phenom Baktygul Kurmanbekova in a strawweight MMA contest at ONE Friday Fights 43 this Friday, December 1.
The fight will take place as part of the promotion’s weekly feeder platform at the iconic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
Mesquita made her professional debut this past July with a rear-naked choke win over Danielle Curtis on Endouro Fight Series in Canberra.
The 35-year-old capped a successful, 6-1 amateur career with a stunning victory in the IMMAF World Championships in February where she beat three opponents from across the world to take out the gold medal.
After struggling to find opponents in her weight class on the local circuit, the Family Fight Team representative will get her chance to shine under the watchful eye of a global promotion.
But in Kurmanbekova, mesquita will face a stiff test.
The 19-year-old holds a 4-2 professional record and has won her last two fights. She possesses fast, powerful hands and like many athletes from Kyrgyzstan, she is strong in the clinch and wrestling exchanges.
Fighters on the ONE Friday Fights platform have the opportunity to win a US$100,000 contract with the promotion if they can impress the ONE brass.
Mesquita’s fight will be the very first fight of the evening. The action kicks off at 11:30pm AEDT/8:30pm AWST and airs live and free on the 7Plus app.
