Gustavo Falciroli and Kai Kara-France will settle the score at AFC 9.
Scheduled to take place at the North Albury Football Club in Albury, NSW, on May 17, the show will be the first caged event from the promotion after previously hosting shows in Melbourne, where AFC officials have been frustrated with the state’s ongoing cage ban.
The bantamweights have unfinished business following the controversial no-contest result of their first encounter at AFC 7, where in the second round, Kara-France was unable to continue after falling through the ropes and colliding with an object on a ringside table (fight video).
Since the fight, Falciroli has vigorously protested the result, claiming Kara-France didn’t collide with anything and that he was hurt from a previous knee to the stomach.
“In my fight experience I knock him out before he get out of the ropes. He didn’t hit the ground, he didn’t hit any table, ok, but that’s my opinion”. — Gustavo Falciroli in his post-fight interview.
He subsequently lodged a review of the result to the Victorian Combat Sports Board.
The fighters were also recently quoted on the promotion’s website.
“Are we guna do this again Gustavo Falciroli?” — Kai Kara-France
“Have you decided to talk now??? You should be ashamed of yourself to request that Kai Kara-France. After u tell everyone why you truly went out of the ring you may get ur wish, just remember there is no place to hide inside the cage”. — Gustavo Falciroli
While Falciroli has remained on the sidelines since the fight, Kara-France has chalked up a win over Tieying Wu on a show in Thailand.
At this point in time, the matchup is the first to be announced by the promotion, and it’s unclear whether it will serve as the main event.
