In an attempt to get busier in a covid world, former UFC middleweight Rob Wilkinson will turn to professional boxing to stay active and keep his competitive edge.
In his debut, Wilkinson will face Jayden Joseph for the vacant Tasmanian heavyweight title.
After securing 11 wins on the trot, Wilkinson made his UFC debut in 2017 on short notice, where he lost to Siyar Bahadurzada. It didn’t get easier for him in his next outing when he was matched up against the current middleweight champion Israel Adesanya. After two tough losses, Wilkinson was sent back to the local scene.
Having moved up to light-heavyweight, Wilkinson has taken out both Dylan Andrews and Daniel Almeida in the first round in his last two outings.
His opponent, Joseph is a former Australian cruiserweight champion and brings a decent 10-4, 1 draw record so should prove to be a decent challenge for Wilkinson.
The event will take place at Hobart City Hall on Saturday, 30 October and will be headlined Australasian female featherweight title between Krystina Jacobs (5-1) and Rebecca Hawker (3-0).
