George Sotiropoulos will make his Titan Fighting Championship debut at Titan FC 29, where the 11-time UFC veteran will face off with The Ultimate Fighter 16 finalist Mike Ricci in the co-main event.
Titan FC 29 will take place on Aug. 22, at the Crown Collosiuam in North Carolina and will feature an inaugural welterweight title fight between Matthew Riddle and Ben Saunders in the headliner.
Sotiropoulos (14-6-0) hasn’t seen action since dropping a unanimous decision to K.J. Noons at UFC 166. The defeat was the Aussie’s fourth straight in the promotion and subsequently he was handed his marching orders. At one point the 36 year-old had put together an impressive seven-fight win streak in the UFC which included wins over Kurt Pellegino, Joe Stevenson, and Billy Miles, who he submitted on the heels of his semi-finals birth in the sixth season of The Ultimate Fighter in 2007. Sotiropoulos was announced to fight Bellator, WEC and one-time CFC veteran Ryan Healy at a World Fighting Championships event later this month however at this point in time, Fight News Australia has been unable to confirm that the fight will still take place.
Following his decision loss to Colton Smith at The Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale, Mike Ricci (9-4-0) went on to have mixed results in the UFC with a win over Colin Fletcher followed by a split decision loss to Myles Jury. The 28 year-old Canadian is currently 1-0 in Titan FC after stopping Jorge Gurgel at February’s Titan FC 27.
Sotiropoulos vs Ricci was originally slated for Titan FC 28, however the bout was rescheduled after Ricci suffered an injury in the lead up.
