A heavyweight title clash between defending champion Mike Turner and interstate challenger Ben Sosoli headlines the 2018 debut of Adelaide based promotion Diamondback FC this weekend.
A veteran of over 13 fights, Trinity MMA’s Turner looked impressive in his last outing when he claimed the heavyweight title at DBFC 4, snatching a second round submission against XFC champion, and the previously undefeated, Jeremy Joiner (event recap). The victory snapped a three-fight skid at light heavyweight for the hometown favorite as he now looks for continued success in the new division this Saturday night.
Fighting out of the Resilience Training Centre in Melbourne, Sosoli has also looked impressive recently. In his last two outings the 28 year-old knocked out Gregory Hearne and most recently Kora Maea at Hex Fight Series 12, finishing both opponents in the opening rounds.
In the co-main event, Adelaide’s Jarod Barke will have the home crowd behind him when he takes on ATT Sydney’s Joel Kendrick in a welterweight battle.
Among other fights slated for the night, lightweights Anthony Bynoe and Ethan Duniam are set to rematch following the pair’s first encounter back at DBFC 3 where Duniam walk away with a rear-naked choke victory in the second round.
The event, Diamondback Fighting Championship 5: Savage Saturday, takes place on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval. The event will stream live right here at Fight News Australia.
