“The Celtic Kid” will welcome “Valhalla” to the southern hemisphere.
Welterweights Jake Matthews and Emil Meek are scheduled to meet at UFC Auckland on February 23, per a UFC announcement on Thursday.
Matthews (15-4) last competed at UFC 243 in October where he defeated Rostem Akman via unanimous decision. Since moving to welterweight in 2017, Matthews has accrued a 4-1 record. Despite being just 25 years old, it will be Matthews’ 13th bout with the promotion.
Meek (9-4) hasn’t fought since July 2018. The Norwegian is currently 3-1 in the UFC and will look to rebound from back-to-back decision losses to Bartosz Fabinski and Kamaru Usman.
UFC Auckland will take place at Spark Arena on Sunday, February 23. The card will be headlined by a lightweight contest between Dan Hooker and Paul Felder. Other bouts currently scheduled for the event are Tyson Pedro vs. Vinicius Moreira and Ben Sosoli vs. Marcos Rogerio de Lima.
