Relishing the UFC strap on his waist, Jamahal Hill has just shown the world that he can dominate anyone in the light heavyweight division. This should be of no surprise as the American has been on a knockout tear this past year, taking out some top contenders in the division.
The newly crowned champ picked up a dominant unanimous victory against Glover Teixeira, one of the most dangerous grapplers in the division.
Hill put on the performance of his life in a fight that had fans on the edge of their seat.
The beginning of the first round was a feeling-out process between fighters. Teixeira went for a few takedowns, but Hill defended well, landed some right hands, and threw some uppercuts to deter the Brazilian from shooting.
Round 2 started well for Hill landing some head kicks and flurries of punches. Teixeira secured a double-leg takedown, but the American got up after a couple of minutes and returned some heavy hands.
Hill continued to piece up the Brazilian with his striking arsenal in the later rounds, almost finishing the fight in round 3. But Teixeira showed heart and continued to receive a beating until the end of the 4th round. The former champ secured a takedown early in the 5th in an attempt to submit Hill. However, the American was too much for him, reversing the situation and dishing out some heavy ground n pound.
At the end of the fight, Hill was crying with joy that he had accomplished his dreams of being a champion.
“From where I came from to get to this, it’s unreal,” Hill said in a post-fight interview with Daniel Cormier.
“Too many people told me I couldn’t do it, it was impossible. I needed to win in round 1. I couldn’t do it in 5. What the F**k you gonna say now!”.
This win brings Hill’s professional record to 12-1-0, 1NC.
