James Te Huna has had a history of shoulder problems, and it seems that the old injury has flared up again with the Sydney based fighter set to go under the knife this week.
Te Huna reportedly re-injured the shoulder in preparation for his bout against Nate Marquardt last month. Te Huna was submitted with a first-round arm-bar by Marquardt in the main event of UFC Fight Night Auckland.
“I’m having surgery on Tuesday. I’ll be out for about six months and I won’t be fighting for about 10 months,” Te Huna told New Zealand site stuff.co.nz.
Back in 2006, Te Huna famously dislocated his shoulder while facing Japanese fighter Takahiro Oba on a regional event in Sydney. The Sydney based fighter had it put back in place by his cornerman before returning to pound out the TKO win.
Te Huna has had surgery on his shoulder before, with surgeons six years ago working on the front-side of the rotator cuff. This time surgeons were scheduled to work on the back.
The loss was Te Huna’s third in a row and puts him in an uncertain position with the UFC. Te Huna also stated in the article that he is determined to push on however has not discussed is future with the organisation as of yet.
