Jamie Mullarkey has won his bout at UFC 293 against UFC veteran John Makdessi via unanimous decision.
All three judges scored the bout 29-28.
The fighters used the first round to establish their range, establishing their distance by trading jabs and kicks to the body, Mullarkey chipping away at Makdessi’s lead leg with kicks. This continued through the second, until a right hand from Makdessi dropped Mullarkey in the final 20 seconds. Mullarkey pushed the pace in the third, keeping the Canadian on the backfoot, however Makdessi was able to land counter shots of his own throughout the round.
Mullarkey was the first Australian fighter of the night on the card and picked up the win in front of an ecstatic Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney.
Mullarkey entered the bout coming of a TKO loss in June.
‘We worked diligently in this camp on our outside game more than anything’ Mullarkey said in the cage after the fight.
