The inaugural Craig Jones Invitation grappling tournament went down over the weekend with prize money of $1 million on-the-line for the winners of the two tournaments at Over 80kgs and Under 80kgs.
Australia’s Levi Jones-Leary earned his way to the final in the under 80kg, submitting IBJJF Absolute No-Gi Champion Roberto Jimenez and grappling star Tye Ruotolo on the first day.
On day two, the Absolute MMA trained grappler earned a unanimous decision against Lucas Barbosa to earn his way to the final against Kade Ruotolo.
Levi-Jones arguably stifled any advancement of Kade throughout and used his exceptional flexibility to keep Kade at bay while also throwing up straight ankle and heel hooks at his opponent who couldn’t pass guard. Ultimately the judges controversially preferred Kade Ruotolo’s superior position as he walked away with the prize money.
Levi-Jones walks away with $10,001 alongside all the competitors in the event.
