New Zealander of Malaysian origin, Ev Ting went down to Russian prospect Marat Gafurov at One Championships: Warriors Quest in Singapore last night.

The two fought on the main card which was broadcast live via an online stream.

Although Ting remained composed on his feet, he was eventually taken down by his Russian opponent with Gafurov very quickly reigning down and peppering Ting with body punches from the top position. Ting successfully managed to work for a scramble, only to be brought back down again. Gafurov followed by sinking in the rear-naked choke to get the tap late in the first round. The official time was 4:30.

The promotion had hinted that the bout may have been a title eliminator for the featherweight title. Ev Ting based out of Auckland MMA and Saigon Sports Club, was on an impressive three fight win streak with One Championship with this being his first loss with the promotion. He drops his professional record to 9-3 .

Gafurov who also has a win over Australian Robert Lisita and now puts himself first in line to challenge the current One Championship title holder, Mongolian Jadam Narantungalag.
