KMA Top Team fighter Martin Nguyen proved himself on Friday night as one of the top featherweights in the country as he stopped fellow undefeated fighter Luke Standing to capture the vacant Brace Featherweight title on Brace 24. The event took place at the AIS Arena in Canberra, ACT, Australia.
As well as winning the Brace title, Nguyen was presented with an six-fight contract with Asian promotion One Fighting Championships.
Scheduled for five-rounds, the fight did not make it out of the first round. When it began both fighters took centre of the cage and took turns exchanging short combinations. Mid-way through the round, Standing came forward with strikes but left himself open for a double leg takedown which put him on his back. Inside guard, Nguyen stayed composed before unleashing a flurry of punches. As the punches continued, Standing did not make a good enough effort to improve his position and the referee was forced to stop him to halt the contest at 3:30 into the fight.
With the win, Nguyen takes his record to 7-0 and will be now looking at taking on some of the best fighters in the One FC promotion. Standing drops his fight fight to take his record to 5-1.
Australian based Canadian Keven Manderson bounced back from a recent loss to Gokhan Turkyilmaz to defeat Jacob Pettett in the semi main-event. After three tough rounds, the judges awarded the decision unanimously, 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28.
Earlier, in front of his home-crowd, Dimitar Dimitrovski made quick work of Craig Bath, submitting his opponent with a rear-naked choke, 2:00 into the fight.
