Martin Nguyen will take on undefeated Russian Shamil Gasanov at ONE Fight Night 7: Lineker vs. Andrade, the Singapore-based promotion has announced.
The former two-weight World Champion will be looking to kick off another run at the ONE Featherweight World Title, when he faces Gasanov at the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand on February 25 (Australian time).
Nguyen was last seen in the Circle back in October, when he suffered a first-round TKO loss to rising Russian star Ilya Freymanov at ONE Fight Night 2.
The crushing loss was a setback to Nguyen’s title ambitions, although the 33-year-old still occupies the #4 spot in ONE’s featherweight rankings and remains within striking distance of another title opportunity.
But he will need to get past a rampaging Gasanov to get back into the mix.
Gasanov burst onto the ONE scene at ONE Fight Night 3 in October, where he made short work of top contender Kim Jae Woong and claimed the #5 ranking after just one fight.
The 27-year-old was ultra-impressive in the first-round submission win, and will now have his sights set on adding a huge scalp to his perfect 13-0 career mark.
ONE Fight Night 7 will be headlined by a highly-anticipated rematch between Brazilian stars John Lineker and Fabricio Andrade, with the vacant ONE Bantamweight World Title on the line.
The first meeting between the pair ended in controversy, as an accidental low blow from Andrade rendered Lineker unable to continue after a pulsating first three rounds.
The bout was declared a no contest, although Andrade appeared to be taking control of the contest.
The co-main event features ONE’s 2022 Breakout Star Of The Year Tawanchai PK.Saenchai, who will defend his ONE Featherweight Muay Thai World Title for the first time.
Tawanchai captured the title by dethroning longtime champion Petchmorakot Petchyindee at ONE 161 in September.
