Undefeated Aussie featherweight Martin Nguyen (7-0) will make his long awaited One FC debut next month at One FC: Battle of Lions in Singapore. The KMA Top Team fighter has stepped up on just two weeks notice to face undefeated Filipino Rocky Batolbatol (5-0).
It will be almost 12 months since we last saw Nguyen in action, where at Brace 24 in Canberra he defeated SPMA’s Luke Standing to claim the promotion’s featherweight title, and in the process secure a six-fight contract with One FC. Following the victory however, which he captured with a first round TKO, the 25 year-old was sidelined with a staph infection in his chest, requiring emergency surgery and preventing him from kicking off his new contract, until now. Among others, Nguyen also holds wins over Thomas Ruderman, Richard Kemp-Hay and Brace featherweight contender Jamie Mullarkey.
His opponent, Rocky Batolbatol, has also been out of action for an extended period time, with his last fight taking place back in October 2013 at URCC: Bacolod Brawl 2013. AKA ‘The Outlaw’, Batolbatol, a former boxer, defeated Darl Laurel (1-1) that night to make it five straight wins in MMA.
One FC: Battle of Lions will take place on Friday, November 7, at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, and will be headlined by an inaugural middleweight title fight between Leandro Ataides and Igor Svirid.
