The UFC’s end of year show has been injected with a little Australian flavor.
The organisation has announced that Aussies Megan Anderson (8-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC) will take on Cat Zingano (10-3 MMA, 3-3 UFC) at UFC 232 in Las Vegas on December 30th (AEST).
Anderson made her UFC debut this past June where she lost a unanimous points decision to former UFC bantamweight champion Holly Holm. Prior to that, Anderson was riding a wave of momentum as the Invicta featherweight champion with four TKO victories in a row. It has been an extremely impressive rise for the Gold Coast native who now trains out of Kansas City and only started training in mixed martial arts five and a half years ago.

The fight against Zingano presents another huge opportunity for Anderson to showcase her skills inside the Octagon against one of the world’s best. Zingano fought for the UFC bantamweight title against Ronda Rousey in 2015 and holds impressive TKO victories over current bantamweight queen Amanda Nunes as well as former champion Meisha Tate. In her last contest, she defeated Marion Reneau by unanimous decision.
With Cris Cyborg defending her featherweight belt against current bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes already on the card, the matchup between Anderson and Zingano is being seen as a potential back up should either of the two women in the co-main event be forced to pull out on short notice.
The main event of UFC 232 will see the second installment of Jon Jones versus Alexander Gustafsson as they compete for the vacant light-heavyweight title.
