Damien Brown kept his unblemished 2015 record intact on Saturday night, making quick work of Grant Toatoa at New Zealand Fighting Championships 1 in Christchurch.
The Brisbane based Integrated MMA fighter snatched the victory early in the opening round with a guillotine choke submission.
It’s been a productive year for “Beatdown”. The win follows his victory over Abel Brites at Brace 36, where he submitted the 2014 Brace champion in 17 seconds, also via guillotine choke. Brown opened his 2015 account by outpointing promising Kiwi Shane Young back in February.
With his next fight just over four weeks away, there’s no rest just yet for the 30 year-old as he now turns his attention to the 2015 Brace championship tournament finale (Brace 37) in Canberra. There, Brown (13-8) will square off with undefeated Central Coast fighter Ben Games (3-0) for the promotion’s 2015 lightweight title. As revealed earlier this month, to add to the occasion, the event will be the first from Brace to be streamed live on UFC Fight Pass, after the Aussie promotion signed a landmark content deal with the digital streaming service.
New Zealand Fighting Championships 1: The Rise of Champions took place at Christchurch’s Cowles Stadium.
