Twenty three year-old Pat Promrangka has forfeited in attempting to make weight for his featherweight bout against Michael Tobin Friday night with his Australian opponent Michael Tobin receiving a bye into the next round.
The two were scheduled to meet on the Rebel Fighting Championships 2 card taking place at the Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre in Singapore.
Tobin spoke about his disappointment via his facebook fan-page.
“My fight on Rebel Fighting Championship is no longer happening as my opponent has quit. (He) did not even bother to weigh in,” Tobin commented.
“(I) can’t tell you all how disappointed I am. I have never felt this good going into a fight (and) I feel this was my time to show people what I can do,” the undefeated fighter added.
The Gold Coast based fighter was looking at extending his winning streak to eight wins with a win here. He finished by thanking his supporters.
“I would like to thank all of my coaches and training partners for all the hard work you have put into preparing me for this fight and most of all my family.”
The bout was part of the promotion’s featherweight eight-man tournament which also features former UFC fighters Miguel Torres and Will Chope. Tobin automatically progressed to the next round scheduled to occur later in the year.
Fellow Australian based fighters Sam Kei & Suman Mokhtarian are still scheduled to appear on the undercard.
A comment from Pat Promrangka, his team and the promotion was not available.
UPDATE (1/8/2014): The Riot Vale Tudo team released the following statement regarding the incident.
Promrangka and Promrangka alone openly quit and refused to make weight, a weight he made 6 weeks ago. Promrangka quit after only cutting 3kg of 5kg with 7 hours remaining. Direct reason and quote being “sauna is too hot. I don’t want to be a fighter anymore”. Event promoter Chad Sanderson witnessed Riot Vale Tudo head trainer Dan Enson Hyatt attempt numerous times to persuade Promrangka to cut the remaining 2kg, even under physical pressure. Promrangka had plenty of fluid remaining and was not gaunt in appearance. Promrangka left the weigh in venue an hour prior to weigh ins to return to his hotel without informing his trainer or the event promoter. Promrangka has since fled the country and has returned to Australia. Riot Vale Tudo head trainer Dan Enson Hyatt remained at the weigh in to explain in person to Michael Tobin’s team, the event promoter and event owners. Promrangka is officially no longer a representative of Riot Vale Tudo.
