Australian Fight fans might be crowning their own UFC champion, on home soil.
It was announced on Tuesday that UFC 221 will take place at Perth Arena, WA on February 11, 2018.
The official press release, hints at a possible unification bout with Aussie Robert Whittaker, who would likely fight the winner of Sunday’s UFC 217 Event.
“Anything can happen between now and Sunday, February 11. With that said, fighting on home soil is always a dream come true and I’d love to unify the UFC middleweight title here in Australia,” said Whittaker.
“let’s see what happens in that main event between Michael Bisping and Georges St-Pierre.”
The McGowan Government, lifted a ban on ‘cage’ fighting in WA in June of this year, making it possible for organisations to host MMA events.
In an announcement video, on Facebook, UFC president Dana White, personally thanked the Western Australian Combat Sports Commission, Officials and the WA government for helping to finally bring the UFC, to the state. White also promised to put on an amazing card at the historic event.
UFC 221 will take place just four months after UFC Sydney, which is scheduled for November 19, and will be the 12th UFC event to be held in Australia.
No fights have been announced for the pay-per-view event.
