New Zealand based Ev Ting will challenge current One lightweight champion Eduard Folayang on his home turf at One Championship: Kings of Destiny this Friday night at Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines.
After an impressive four fight win steak and having gone 7-1 with the promotion there is no doubt that Ting has earned his chance to challenge for the One Championship title.
Fighting out of Auckland MMA, Ting (13-3) has only had just one glitch on his record in his last eight bouts with Asia’s largest MMA promotion. The lone promotional loss came at the hands of current One featherweight champion Marat Gafurov in 2015. As of late, however, Ting has gone 4-0 against Folyang’s countrymen.
Filipino striker Eduard Folayang (15-5) fighting out of Team Lakay has grown in leaps and bounds with his grappling and takedown defense. These new tools to his game and an execution of a good tactical game plan helped him overcome and capture the title against Japanese grappling phenom Shinya Aoki late in 2016. The match-up with Ting will be Folayang’s first title defense.
Teammate of Folayang, Kevin Belingon is set to clash with Finnish rising star Toni Tauru in the co main event.
Also on the night, Australian based Brit Natalie Gonzales Hills will take on another Team Lakay representative in Gina Iniong at strawweight. Aiming to get back on track Friday night, Gonzales Hills ventured out to the Jackson Wink MMA Academy in Albuquerque, New Mexico to prep for her match with Iniong.
