Western Australian Quillan Salkilld impressed the UFC president Dana White, earning earning himself a UFC contract on Dana White’s Contender Series earlier today.
First up on the card which took place at the UFC’s Apex Centre in Las Vegas, Salkild won a unanimous decision against American Gauge Young in what was an entertaining lightweight contest.
Salkilld’s wide range of kicks was on display and particularly used his wrestling to control the majority of the contest though both had there moments when exchanging punches.
Prior to the announcement of the decision winner, Dana White did enter the cage to congratulate both on an entertaining fight and tell them they both have a future in the sport, though ultimately it would only be Salkilld who would walk away with the contract.
Salkilld though wasn’t ultimate that impressed with his win, telling UFC host Laura Sanko in his post-fight interview.

“I had to resort to being tough and move forward, eat a few shots. There were a few bits that were a bit sloppy in my case and I like to be super clean so I need to sharpen up those things”
Salkilld’s professional MMA career started off with a loss but the Luistro Combat Academy trained athlete has racked up seven wins on the trot to get into the UFC. His opponent Gauge Young drops to 8-2.
