Gold Coast based Reece McLaren will headline a One Championship card for the first time when he faces off against home-town hero Gianni Subba this Friday night.
The event, One: Visions of Victory, will take place at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia with the winner set to face flyweight champion Adriano Moraes later in the year.
McLaren was originally scheduled to challenge Moraes for the title belt on the same card, but the Brazilian champion was forced out of the contest due to a knee injury.
Should McLaren, 26 years-old, get a shot at the title, it would be his second attempt at a One Championship belt after stretching bantamweight king Bibiano Fernandes all the way in late 2016. McLaren nearly pulled of one of the upsets of the year, before losing a split points decision. McLaren followed that up with a loss to Kevin Belingon in 2017 and McLaren dropped to the flyweight ranks. In his flyweight debut, McLaren earned a first-round submission over Anatpong Bunrad in November.
His opponent Gianni Subba has competed the entirety of his professional career with the Asian promotion having gone 9-2 throughout an impressive career run. Subba possesses the hometown advantage, but McLaren is no stranger to competing and performing on enemy soil.
In the co-main event, rising Malaysian star and former One welterweight title challenger Agilan Thani is matched up against former SFL welterweight champion Amitesh Chaubey of India. The bout will be staged at middleweight.
Also on the main card, another rising star in Singaporean Christian Lee will be given the opportunity to showcase his talents against experienced Japanese veteran Kazunori Yokota in a featherweight match up.
