TUF Nations Welterweight Richard Walsh made a promising start in his UFC 184 clash today with American Alan Jouban, only to be caught with a well placed elbow which sparked the end for the Aussie.
Both fighters exchanged strikes to begin the bout, with Walsh putting pressure on Jouban with his kicking. Walsh also landed with a nice overhand right in the opening minutes. However, from out of nowhere up close, Jouban connected with a solid left elbow to the temple of the Aussie, which he followed up with punches to the head forcing referee Big John McCarthy to put a stop to the short lived contest. The end came by KO at 2:19 of the opening period.
With the loss, the VT 1 gym trained Walsh (8-3 MMA, 1-2 UFC) slumps to his second defeat in a row following his UFC debut win over fellow Aussie Chris Indich in April of last year. For Jouban (11-3 MMA, 2-1 UFC), the impressive win puts him back in the winners column after losing to Warlley Alves in November. The American also holds a UFC win over Seth Baczynski in his promotional debut in August of 2014.
UFC 184 will be headlined by a women’s bantamweight title fight between defending champion Ronda Rousey and challenger Cat Zingano. Full results from today can be found here.
