Former UFC middleweight champion Rob Whittaker is set to make his return to the cage in Dublin.
While nothing has been officially announced by the UFC, Whittaker Is expected to fight Darren Till at the event on August 15. Brett Okamoto of ESPN was first to report the news.
After dropping the title to Israel Adesanya in October of last year, Whittaker was booked to fight Jared Cannonier at UFC 248 but was forced to withdraw from the fight due to personal reasons.
UFC President Dana White told Submission Radio the reason Whittaker pulled out was “one of the most unselfish things I’ve ever seen in my life.” While erroneous reports circulated as to the reason why, Whittaker has not spoken on the matter.
Darren Till defeated Kelvin Gastelum by split decision last November in his first fight at middleweight. The former welterweight title challenger moved up in weight class suffering consecutive defeats to Tyron Woodley and Jorge Masvidal.
There are currently no other fights scheduled for the Dublin card.
