UFC President Dana White has announced massive news for Australian fight fans, confirming that Rob Whittaker will take on Dricus du Plessis in a middleweight title eliminator.
The fight between Whittaker and du Plessis is set to take place during International Fight Week at UFC 290 in July.

During the announcement of the fight, UFC President Dana White went on to reveal that the winner will get a title shot against UFC Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya with the event targeted for Sydney, Australia.

In the last five years, Rob Whittaker, who is 32 years old, has dominated everybody in the middleweight division not named Israel Adesanya. Although he has suffered two losses against Adesanya, Whittaker has an impressive record of 12 wins and no losses in the division outside of those matchups. His most recent bout was a dominant decision victory over Marvin Vettori in September 2022.
Dricus du Plessis is undefeated inside the UFC racking up five wins since joining the organisation in 2020. He has an overall record of 19-2.
