Following a report by MMA Junkie.com, the UFC announced today that No. 6-ranked middleweight Robert Whittaker will take on No. 4-ranked Ronaldo Souza in the co-main event of UFC on Fox 24 next month.
Whittaker (17-4) is coming off a first round knockout of Derek Brunson at UFC Fight Night 101 in Melbourne. The win was the 26 year-old Aussie’s sixth victory in a row.
With the recent announcement that middleweight champion Michael Bisping will square off the returning Georges St-Pierre, Souza (24-4) will step back into the Octagon to remain active and look for his third straight victory in the process. “Jacare” is coming off a first-round submission against Tim Boetsch earlier this year at UFC 208.
UFC on Fox 24 takes place April 15 at the Sprint Center in Kansas City. The event will be headlined by a flyweight title fight between champion Demetrious Johnson and Brazil’s Wilson Reis.
