After losing their last three fights earlier on the card, the ANZAC’s finally got one on the board as 35 year-old heavyweight Soa Palelei (pictured) knocked Pat “HD” Barry unconcious with punches from mount.
Based out of Perth, Western Australia Palelei immediately went in for the takedown which was defended nicely by Barry. Barry missed with a head kick and shortly after Palelei dummied with an overhand before securing the takedown. Barry attacked the arm from the bottom, as Palelei landed short punches from half-guard. Palelei then transitioned to mount where he unloaded with heavy punches which put knocked out the 34 year-old American.
As Palelei who was slight underdog leading up to the fight celebrated, Barry immediately woke up and attempted to get back to his feet only to stumble across the Octagon and falling flat on his face. The stoppage came at 2:09 of the opening round
With the win, Soa Palelei secures his second UFC victory and takes his undefeated streak to 10 fights. It was also his 16th career win by KO/TKO as he moves to 20-3 (UFC 2-1). An impressive performance for Palelei following a lacklustre win against Nikita Krylov earlier this year. Barry’s record now drops to 8-7 (UFC 5-7).
