UFC Flyweight Stephen Erceg’s winning streak has extended to 10 wins after his unanimous decision victory over Alessandro Costa in the featured prelim of UFC 295 in New York.
Erceg found used his longer range in the first round to keep out of Costa’s strikes, countering with his own. Erceg dropped Costa as the round concluded, attacking submissions on the ground. Costa lead the fight in the second round, pushing the pace on Erceg with explosive shots, backing Erceg up. The third round saw Erceg lay heavy wrestling pressure on Costa, pushing him against the cage and taking him down multiple times to secure the round and the fight.
Erceg was originally slated to fight world number nine Matt Schnell, however Schnell pulled out leaving Erceg with no opponent, forcing Costa to step in. Erceg’s last fight was a decision victory over world number 10 David Dvorak at UFC 289 in Canada.
Erceg’s record improves to 11-1, 2-0 in the UFC, while Costa’s falls to 10-4, 1-2 in the UFC.
In the cage after the fight, commentator Jon Anik said a re-match up with Schnell may be in the future for Erceg.
