Sydney based featherweight Rory O’Connell is set to make his international debut next month at Pacific Xtreme Combat 52 in Guam. O’Connell (6-1) will square off with PXC veteran Kyle Reyes (8-4).
Due to a number of matchups falling through for the Sydneysider in recent times, O’Connell will be returning to competition after almost three years on the sidelines having not fought since stopping Australian Judo Olympian Ivo Dos Santos with strikes at AFC 5. The 27 year-old, who trains out of Life BJJ in Sydney (formally TP Gym), has tasted defeat just once in his MMA career, with that being a decision loss to Rob Lisita, one of the best local featherweights. O’Connell will now look to get the ball rolling again on March 18 against hometown favorite Kyle “Boom” Reyes.
Reyes, 25, on the other hand, has kept busy going 3-1 in 2015 on regional US promotions. This fight will be his first for PXC since he was outpointed by Aussie PXC featherweight champ Alex Volkanovski in 2014, and his ninth appearance for the promotion in total.
PXC 52 takes place at UOG Calvo Field House in Guam on Friday, March 18 and will be headlined by a bantamweight clash between Trevin Jones (7-4) and Jeremiah Labiano (9-3). Also slated for the show, streaking NZ flyweight Kai Kara-France (11-6) returns to the promotion to face Filipino Crisanto Pitpitunge (8-4). Check out the full lineup at the PXC 52 event page.
