Following his first round demolition of combat sports veteran Gul “The Hebrew Hammer” Pohatu at Urban Fight Night 5 in December (video), Tai “Bam Bam” Tuivasa sent an ominous warning to the local heavyweight division. “2016 all these heavyweights better watch out baby!”
The hard-hitting 23 year-old’s first challenge following that victory will be against reigning AFC heavyweight champion Brandon Sosoli at AFC 16 on June 18 at the Melbourne Pavilion.
Sosoli, 23, claimed the title in impressive fashion at AFC 13, stopping Andre Meunier with strikes early in the opening round. The Kiama, NSW native later went on to defend the Wollongong Wars heavyweight title, disposing of Mathew Wade also by first round KO.
Also announced for the show, the promotion’s lightweight tournament continues with two matchups scheduled as Ben Wall takes on Rob Hill after the pair defeated Matiu Thoms and Steven Maxwell respectively at AFC 15. Meanwhile, James Bishop faces Gokhan Turkyilmaz after they beat James McGlashan and Mikey Vaotuua respectively.
