Both Australian based fighters Michael Tobin and Pat Promrangka have been drawn against each other in the opening round of the Rebel Fighting Championships featherweight tournament set to occur early in August.
The winner between Tobin vs Promrangka will have a favorable path to the final with the likes of Miguel Torres and Will Chope being drawn in the other half of the bracket. The full match-ups for the first round are – Miguel Torres (41-7) vs Takahiro Ashida (12-2-2), Mauricio Dos Santos Jr. (10-8), Michael Tobin (8-0) vs Pat Promrangka (5-4) and Reyden Romero (7-4) vs Yojiro Uchimura (11-7-3).
The pairings were drawn randomly at a live press-conference on Thursday evening in Singapore. For Aussie fighters, it will be their first international MMA experience.
Training out of the PUMMA gym on the Gold Coast, the undefeated Tobin last fought back in February where he scored his seventh career submission by defeating Luke Hume in the first-round.
Based out of the new Riot Vale Tudo gym in Queensland, Promrangka will go into the tournament having not fought since June 2013 where he lost to Regan Neoh. Prior to that, Promrangka scored an impressed first-round KO over TUF Smashes contestant Grant Blackler.
The event is set to take place at the Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre in Singapore, with the first-round of fights occurring on August 1, with the winners returning the next day August 2 to participate in the semi-finals and finals.
