With Alex Volkanovski putting Wollongong on the world map and Sam Goodman looking to do the same in the boxing ring, we can add another name to the list of great fighters to reside in the city that we should be keeping an eye out for.
Tonga Tongotongo last named moves his record to an unblemished 8-0 as he stopped Max Reeves in the sixth round of their IBO World Youth light-heavyweight title in an entertaining battle. Tongotongo also kept his finish rate at a perfect one hundred per cent, having not gone to the judges decision yet.
Reeves will look to rebound, as the loss was a first in his career and will take something out of the contest. The 23-year-old was up on all three judges’ cards, with two of the judges having it 50-45 at the time of stoppage according to boxrec.com.
Earlier, Taylah Gentzen won a unanimous decision over Deanha Hobbs to claim the WBA Oceania lightweight title.
The card took place at the Pullman Hotel in Albert Park, Victoria and was promoted by Wildfighter.
