Despite a gutsy effort, Canberra fighter Josh ‘Timebomb’ Tonna (31-15-0) was unable to avoid the renowned kicks of Thai star Petchdam Kaiyanghadao (90-13-0), losing via knockout in the second round on ONE: Pursuit of Power in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
A former Lumpinee 53.5kg Champion and current World Boxing Council (WBC) Muay Thai Champion, Petchdam came into the bout as the pundit’s favourite and quickly showed why he was such a highly-rated acquisition for the Asian promotion.
Eager to avoid the powerful left kick of Petchdam, Tonna made every attempt to fight on the inside but was quickly pushed backwards by the Thai who would use his speed to full effect. Landing multiple kicks in the space of seconds, Petchdam was able to put himself easily ahead on the judge’s scorecards at the end of round one.
Tonna opened the second round with a flurry of punches before the Thai lined up another powerful left kick that landed short with his knee connecting cleanly on the chin of the Australian, sending Tonna down to the canvas and out for the count.
