Hector Lombard made his return to the middleweight division at UFC 199 to take on UFC veteran Dan Henderson live from Inglewood, California.
In what was expected to be an all out stand up war, the fans were not left disappointed.
The first round was a back-and-forth affair with Henderson landing a powerful one-two combination that left Lombard looking hurt early. Lombard then returned the favour tagging Henderson and throwing him to the mat. The fight returned to the feet soon after only to have Lombard drill Henderson once again. With very little time on the clock, Lombard couldn’t quite get the finish but he did hurt Henderson enough to have the Doctor second guessing whether he could go on.
The second round opened with a leg and body kick from Henderson. Lombard came out looking for the finish but couldn’t quite land the big shot. Henderson brought out the high kick which Lombard managed to escape only to find himself on the end of a devastating elbow to the temple. Lombard hit the mat and the lights were out. Henderson put the final nail in the coffin with some big punches on the ground.
UFC 199 was stacked from top to bottom with exciting performances all around. Dominic Cruz defended his bantamweight title with a clinical victory over Urijah Faber whilst Michael Bisping upset the apple cart with a huge win over Luke Rockhold for the middleweight title.
