The UFC featherweight King Alexander ‘The Great ‘ Volkanovski is set to fight in the most anticipated matchup in 2023 against the UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhhachev at UFC 284 in Perth.
In a recent video Volkanovski posted on YouTube, the Aussie has asserted he is more than ready ahead of his bout with the Daganstani champ.
“Islam’s strong. Islam’s going to be ready, Volkanovski said.
“But I guarantee you, mark my words, I’m going to be ready, I’m going to be more than ready. I’m going to be fit, I’m going to be stronger than ever and I’m already filling up. I’m already holding more muscle than I originally did in my last few fights. I’m already stronger, significantly stronger.”

“When I’m telling you 2023 is gonna be the biggest year of my whole career, my legacy — this is the defining year, 2023, it starts off with taking out Islam. Big opportunity to not only be great but to be one of the greatest. So, that’s what I’m coming for,” he continued.
If Volkanovski manages to shock the world again, it will be one for the history books because no other fighter has come close to solving the puzzle of Islam Makhhachev. The Aussie will have arguably solidified his G.O.A.T status and have his name up there, alongside George St. Pierre, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Anderson Silva & Jon Jones.
To help make this dream a reality, Volkanovski has brought in Craig Jones, known to be one of the most esteemed submission grapplers on the planet. He will help the champ prepare for anything Makhachev will throw at him in the grappling department alongside, wrestling coach George Hickman.
Volkanovski has stated Jones was instrumental in improving his submission defence, something that was on full display in his fight with Brian Ortega where he managed to get out of an extremely tight guillotine.
11 of Makhachev’s 23 wins have come by way of submission.
