Following their Sydney offering in late July — Brace 21 — which saw Billy McAlees make short work of Kiwi Gerhard Voigt in the headliner, Brace return for another show at the Norths Leagues Club in Cammeray, NSW, on September 21. The main event will see undefeated light heavyweights, Randall Rayment and Jon Marco Sanchez square off.
Fighting out of the Australian Top Team Gym in Sydney’s western suburbs, 26 year-old Randall Rayment (pictured) will take an unblemished 4-0 record into the main event fight, which will be his debut appearance for the promotion. A former amateur boxer, Rayment is also a competent grappler and has three victories by submission, including in his most recent outing at Friday Night Fight Night in Thailand back in May, where he defeated Canadian fighter Nick Naccarato via Kimura. All four of his opponents didn’t make it past the first round. Fight News Australia recently asked the 6 foot 3 inch light heavyweight for his thoughts on Marco Sanchez, and where he thinks he’ll have the advantage when they meet.
“My goal is to become the Brace light heavyweight champion. Jon Marco Sanchez is a tough opponent and I will not take him lightly. I plan to find out my advantages in the cage, no game plan as such, I will suss that out in the cage.”
Jon Marco Sanchez is a school teacher by day and spends his nights at the Full Circle Mixed Martial Arts Gym in Wollongong, where he trains under coach Russell Thompson. Undefeated as an amateur, Sanchez has put together two wins on the pro circuit, both in the now defunct Proud Warrior Productions organisation. Fighting last at PWP 5, Sanchez scored a second round TKO win over Ben Lewis, an opponent who he shares in common with his upcoming adversary.
Also announced for the Sydney show, Luke Birch from Lange’s MMA, who defeated Ray Moore earlier in the year at Cage Conquest 2, will face Beston Gracie product Jan Johannes Van Aswegen in a lightweight contest.
Janice Yee from the Boxing Works Gym in Sydney and New Castle’s Tam “Taminator” Ward are slated to meet in a WMMA flyweight bout.
Karl Robertson, one of two Wimp to Warrior contestants announced for the event, will take on Laauli Faatamala from Lange’s at middleweight.
Following his submission loss to Will Swan at Brace 21, Temple Dogz striker Darwin Sagurit returns to face the Sinosic / Perosh trained Jeshua McPhail. After a strong start in his previous Brace appearance, Sagurit was forced to tap in second period to a guillotine choke. The two men will meet at 65.8 Kilograms.
Other matchups announced for the September show include Wimp to Warrior participant Matthew Moore and Jared Schouten from the Lange’s, and Danny Hopper (Juggernaut) vs Sam Atkinson (Boxing Works).
Further bouts are expected to be announced soon.
